About Us

After initially developing a range of bottle-conditioned Discworld beers and legendary scumble cider, in 2003 Paul & Karen were discovering the fine beers produced in some of the best breweries in the UK and beyond.

They recognised that these brands needed to reach a wider audience, and so with assistance from their two daughters (Millie & Abbie), Ales By Mail was born.

The Ales By Mail online store launched in October 2009, and the business was joined by Danny Nicholson and John Pagan who brought much needed logistical and marketing knowledge to the quickly growing business. We have a young, fast-growing warehouse and support team (lovingly known by our customers as “the Elves”) and have quickly established ourselves as a destination website for beer lovers.

Since inception we have built relationships with brewers from around the world who trust us to deliver craft beer to beer lovers worldwide. This unique relationship allows us to source small-batch beers packed full of flavour where quality and taste are key.

As Ales By Mail has grown it has started to work more closely with breweries, offering an award-winning fulfilment service.

Meet the Team

Paul Kruzycki, MD

"He may not be superman, but I am confident of his ability to leave high marks on tall buildings" Terry Pratchett

Paul Kruzycki has run successful businesses for the last 15 years. The latest, Ales By Mail, was launched as the world began to descend into financial darkness. Whilst others were following less ambitious plans, Paul saw the potential in craft beer and went for it. It is a trait common to his whole business life and he is never happier than when forging a path into a new business sector and making things work.

Developing a palate for good beer, Paul is now a regular judge at national and international beer competitions including the International Beer Challenge.

When not sampling the finest real ales Paul can be found running on the streets of Romford - training for another Marathon, having been bitten by the running bug in 2009 when he completed the London Marathon.

"You outstared the headlights to create the first UK DW con, which will always be my favourite." Terry Pratchett.

Danny Nicholson, Product Development

Danny is a former science teacher and has run his own business as an educational consultant and trainer. He has been wrangling products at Ales by Mail for many years, preparing the products for sale. He also spends a lot of time on Twitter and Facebook which he insists is work-related, although we’ve yet to be convinced. He’s a keen armchair sportsman, computer gamer and scifi/fantasy geek.

Danny’s passion for beer ranges from the light summer ales to the dark winter stouts, but if pushed to choose a favourite it would probably be a big hoppy IPA.

John Pagan, Marketing

John, our resident marketeer and graphic designer, spends his time crafting every aspect of our appearance, to make the Ales By Mail experience as lovely for you all as he can. His retail experience also has roots in various Discworld projects of years gone by.

When not playing computer games or watching sci-fi (popular hobbies apparently), he can be found at archery events trying not to look like a poor man's Robin Hood.
