    This is not a canned blog post... Apparently, the beer can turns 80 this week. On January 24 in 1935 the first canned beer was sold in the good old US of A. This was a can of Krueger Cream Ale. The Drum has a nice piece about canned beers and selection of great 21st century craft beer can branding.

    Here at Ales by Mail we are big fans of the craft beer can revolution. The cans look great. The beer tastes great. The beer can is safe and easy to transport to remote locations (like festivals). The sweet infographic below, from Beavertown, illustrates all that cans can do very nicely.

  • Spanish craft beer you ask? Well, if you haven't been paying attention there has been a Spanish beer revolution taking place over the last few years. One of the best breweries to burst from the Iberian Peninsula is Naparbier from Noain near Pamplona. We’re pretty sure Ernest Hemingway would approve of the tasty brews coming from Naparbier.

  • Canopy Beer Co, London Canopy Beer Co, London

    A new year brings new breweries to Ales by Mail, and we're pleased to welcome Canopy Brew Co as our first new brewery for 2015.

    The Canopy Beer Co was set up to bring good beer done well to their local area. Their microbrewery is based in a railway arch tucked behind Norwood Road, just a stone's throw from Brockwell Park in Herne Hill.

    They brew twice a week and they have an ever-changing rosta of beers alongside their core stalwarts of Brockwell IPA and Ruskin Wheat Beer. We've got three of their bottled beers for you to try.

    We had the pleasure of escaping the daily grind of the warehouse and cyberspace to hop down to Partridge Green in West Sussex for a visit to the Dark Star Brewing Co. Born in the Evening Star pub in Brighton, Dark Star has been brewing award winning cask ales and craft beer in the heart of Sussex for 20 years. The guys quickly moved from the pub (a pub they still own) as demand outstripped supply, first to Ansty near Haywards Heath and then on to today’s bigger operations in Partridge Green, outside Horsham.
